There’s been a trend in young adult and tween books to have popular chapter book series also have graphic novel versions of each novel.

The Harry Potter book series has taken things in a different direction in creating the Harry Potter illustrated books instead of graphic novels.

These Harry Potter illustrated books tell the same amazing tales of Harry, Hermione, Ron and friends but with the addition of beautiful pictures of iconic scenes.

How Many Harry Potter Illustrated Books are There?

At present there are two different series of Harry Potter Illustrated books.

Harry Potter Illustrated Books by Jim Kay

There are currently five illustrated books by famed illustrated Jim Kay. You can watch a video of him working on his Harry Potter illustrated books.

It was announced in October 2022, however that Jim would be stepping down after seven years as illustrator in the Bloomsbury series to focus on his mental health.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix: Illustrated Edition is his last work however Bloomsbury plans to continue the series of Harry Potter illustrated editions with other artists.

Harry Potter Illustrated Books by Minalima Studios

Minalima Studios has created a second series of Harry Potter illustrated books.

The studio is the brainchild of Miraphora Mina and Eduardo Lima who started working together in 2001 to imagine and create the graphic universe of the Harry Potter film series for Warner Bros. films.

They crafted the entire graphic style of all the Harry Potter movies and has carried that design into their versions of Harry Potter illustrated books.

In addition to their work together on the Harry Potter movies and illustrated books, they also designed all the graphic elements for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Diagon Alley at Universal Orlando Resort. Pretty amazing!
